|The Cherry Orchard|

Comedy in four acts

Opening night: June 3, 2004
Running time: 3 h, with one intermission
Ticket price range: 250—3000 rub.
The Cherry Orchard was produced to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the play that has determined the overall tone for the entire 20th century drama. The director, Adolf Shapiro, asked himself a question: where the characters of a legendary play could possibly live nowadays, when their cherry orchard has been long gone. The answer to the question was in the material world created on stage by the set designer, David Borovsky. The only place where Chekhovian characters could possibly live is – on stage. The waves of the stage curtain with the famous Seagull insignia, curving and making smooth corners, becomes home to the homeless wanderers, who are in fact the shadows of the past come to life on stage.
